Coastline Housing has thanked local people and organisations for their efforts in making a difference to their communities in Cornwall.
A number of ‘Customer at the Heart’ Awards were presented to those recognised for their kindness, help and inspiration. Winners were voted for by Coastline customers.
Charles Allwright, who has been involved with the Pengegon Allotment Association for 50 years on the Pengegon Estate in Camborne, received the Green Champion award. He has been sharing his produce with friends, family and sometimes Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change.
Jack Brown was awarded the Young Hero Award for producing an accredited creative writing course at Coastline’s Homeless Service. He was praised for his thoughtfulness and empathy to others.
Laura Allsworth was given the Partnership Working Award for the West Cornwall Shoebox Appeal, which focuses on local communities creating shoeboxes with essential items and gifts for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Lisa O’Kane and Sian Corban were presented with the Your Next Step award for creating a Community Interest Company called Hidden Treasures. The project aims to provide affordable, inclusive and regulated childcare, overnight short breaks, play schemes and holiday camps for families in Cornwall who have children with additional needs.
Lynne Cawkwell was given the Community Volunteer award for her work at the Miners Court Day Centre Team in Redruth. She retired in 2020 after working for many years in the catering department at Treliske Hospital and now volunteers two days a week.
Kevin Brennan was awarded the Partner Programme accolade for his volunteer work in the Partner Programme with Coastline’s Homeless Service and donating his time to allotments every week.
Nigel Trevena was given an award for the work he does with the ‘Miners Minders’ group at Miners Court, befriending other new customers who move into the Extra Care scheme.
Wendy James received the Good Neighbour Award for her work since moving into Veor House, Camborne. She is great at communicating with her neighbours and attending meetings between residents and Coastline’s Tenancy Team.
John Stevens and Wendy James were both presented with Long Service Awards for their ten year volunteer contributions.
Kathryn Dearden was given the Best Garden award for transforming her garden since moving in.
Allister Young, Coastline Housing CEO, said: “It was truly inspiring to hear all the many ways in which our award winners and runner ups are helping people in their local communities day in, day out. Many congratulations to all our worthy winners.”
