Royal Forestry Society Honored to Receive Royal Patronage from His Majesty King Charles
London, Tuesday 7 May, 2024 – The Royal Forestry Society (RFS) is pleased to announce that it has been granted the Royal Patronage of His Majesty King Charles.
This is a significant moment for the RFS, as His Majesty becomes the sixth monarch to hold the position of Patron for the society. Previously, he served as President of the RFS during its Centenary in 1982-1983.
RFS President Ben Herbert expressed his gratitude, stating, “This patronage further strengthens the special bond between the RFS and His Majesty. He has always shown a keen interest in the work of foresters and woodland managers, and his support for projects that promote excellence in forestry and enhance skills in woodland management is highly valued.”
During his presidency, His Majesty initiated the Duke of Cornwall Cup, which is still awarded annually as part of the RFS Excellence in Forestry Awards for resilient, multi-purpose forestry. Under his leadership, the Duchy of Cornwall woodlands have become some of the best managed in the country.
Additionally, His Majesty continues to show his support for the role that trees and woods play in our communities through initiatives like the Coronation Living Heritage Fund.
The RFS has a long history of royal patronage, dating back to 1905 when King Edward VII became the society’s first Patron. He was followed by King George V, King Edward VIII, King George VI, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who served as the society’s much loved and active patron for 70 years.
The RFS is proud to have pledged its loyalty to His Majesty on his Coronation and looks forward to welcoming him to future RFS events.
