HEIDELBERG Creates Tomorrow’s AI-Managed Print Shop

Heidelberg Celebrates 20 Years of Digitalization and 5 Years of AI Experience

HEIDELBERG, Germany – In the ever-evolving world of technology, it’s easy to see printing and digitalization as opposing forces. However, for HEIDELBERG, one of the leading manufacturers of printing presses and related software, these two elements have been successfully integrated for the past 20 years. Since 2004, HEIDELBERG has been at the forefront of networking machines and systems in print shops, and today, around 13,000 units worldwide are connected to the company’s cloud.

With a three-digit million euro investment in digital processes, products, and services, HEIDELBERG has solidified its position as a pioneer in mechanical engineering and industry. “Our company has shaped the printing industry over the past 20 years and far beyond and will continue to do so in the future based on our technological expertise,” says Dr. David Schmedding, Chief Technology and Sales Officer at HEIDELBERG.

One of the key developments in HEIDELBERG’s digitalization journey is the AI-based consulting tool “PAT,” which provides contract printers with easy-to-implement recommendations for more efficient workflows. This tool, along with the company’s well-known workflow software Prinect Touch Free, which can independently decide on the most efficient and cost-effective production method for a print job, showcases HEIDELBERG’s commitment to creating an AI-controlled print shop of the future.

Since the drupa printing press trade fair in 2024, HEIDELBERG has become a total solution provider for print shops, offering all modern printing processes with corresponding machines and linking them through the Prinect workflow software. “HEIDELBERG is well equipped for the future and is currently benefiting from a high order backlog following the drupa printing press trade fair,” says Schmedding.

To celebrate its 20 years of digitalization, HEIDELBERG has released a white paper entitled “Digital revolution in the printing industry – 20 years of digital innovations and smart manufacturing at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG,” which highlights the company’s most significant milestones from 2004 to 2024. This paper, along with images and a large infographic showcasing HEIDELBERG’s digital milestones, can be downloaded from the media section of their website.
