Naturewatch Foundation, a UK-based animal welfare charity, has announced “Great or Small, Love Them All” as the theme for the annual World Animal Day celebration in October. The theme was decided following an online competition which was open to the charity’s supporters and followers.
Since 1925, the celebration of World Animal Day has seen people from all walks of life join together to increase awareness and fundraise for animal welfare causes and issues.
Sarah Carr, CEO of Naturewatch Foundation, commented: “World Animal Day is an opportunity to speak up for all animals and it continues to amaze us. Last year, it had a reach of over 52 million people online! We want people to get involved in meaningful ways by organising events on, and around, October 4. It’s a movement with like-minded advocates uniting to make the world a kinder and safer place.”
The winning theme was submitted by Mustaina Yakub, from Leicester, UK: “I suggested the theme ‘great or small, love them all’ for the underlying assets discovered and appreciated in animals. From tiny ants to the Antarctic blue whale, dogs to orangutans, and elephants who show grief; it is mesmerizing to know I share the same Earth with these spectacular species. Animals are my tranquillity and source of serotonin in a world full of chaos.”
Anyone interested in taking part in World Animal Day activities can register for occasional updates through the Naturewatch Foundation website.
