Music Street, an arts group known for curating local events and promoting “Musical Routes To Wellbeing”, announced on Tuesday 7 May, 2024 that they have acquired rare footage of the Dudley Moore Trio. The footage was found for sale online by a group of volunteers at Music Street who are not only huge fans of Moore’s work, but also saw it as an opportunity to share his talent with a wider audience.
The footage, which was originally captured on quadruplex reels in the 1950s and 60s, was purchased by Music Street and immediately digitized. Pete Corby, Chairman of Music Street, stated that they were careful not to alter the visuals, but the audio required some fixing to maintain the original sound quality. Corby expressed his satisfaction with the results, stating that the audio is now as crisp as the day it was recorded.
Claire Minett, resident film maker at Music Street, described the event as a “stand alone” tribute to Dudley Moore. The event will take place at the Hebden Bridge Picturehouse and will include a showing of the cult classic film “Bedazzled”. The film, written by Peter Cook and featuring an intoxicating score by Dudley Moore, is considered to be the best performance of the comedic duo on the big screen.
The event will also feature a performance by The Chris Ingham Quartet, paying homage to Dudley Moore’s jazz music and telling his story through music. Ingham, a musician and composer, expressed his admiration for Moore and his desire to shed light on his musical talents that have been overshadowed by his fame in other areas.
The event, titled “Bedazzled: A Celebration”, will take place on 25 May 2024 from 3-10pm and tickets can be purchased online at the Hebden Bridge Picture House website. Tickets are priced at £15 or £10 for concessions and are expected to sell quickly. This event is a must-see for jazz aficionados and fans of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore alike.
