Cumbria Community Foundation Offers Grants for Flood Resilience Projects
Cumbria Community Foundation is now accepting applications for grants of up to £2,000 from community groups, including town and parish councils, as part of the Cumbria Innovative Flood Resilience (CiFR) project. This project is funded by Defra and delivered by the Environment Agency as part of the Flood and Coastal Innovation Programmes.
The grants are meant to assist communities in building their resilience to flooding and other emergencies through the purchase of necessary equipment and training. Applicants must have a community emergency plan in place or be in the process of creating one, and must also consider flood risk as part of their plan. The CiFR team is available to provide assistance with this, and interested parties can contact them at CiFR@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk to be connected with the appropriate support.
To learn more about grant funding and to apply, interested parties can visit https://www.cumbriafoundation.org/fund/cifr-community-flood-resilience-fund/.
This project is part of Defra’s £200 million Flood and Coastal Innovation Programmes, which are managed by the Environment Agency and are aimed at promoting innovation in flood and coastal resilience and adaptation to a changing climate.
For those in need of assistance with planning, templates for community emergency plans can be found on the ACTion with Communities in Cumbria website at https://www.cumbriaaction.org.uk/what-we-do/community-emergency-planning. It is also recommended to check flood risk on the gov.uk website, either by postcode or by using the map feature, as it is important to consider risks from surface water, rivers, and the sea. Additionally, the website now offers the ability to see predicted flood risks for the 2050s at https://check-long-term-flood-risk.service.gov.uk/postcode and https://check-long-term-flood-risk.service.gov.uk/map.
Communities are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen their resilience to flooding and other emergencies. Apply now and start building a stronger, flood-resilient community.
