Royal Forestry Society to Recognize Exceptional Woods and Forestry Projects in Central and Eastern England
Thursday 8 February, 2024 – The Royal Forestry Society (RFS) has announced its annual Excellence in Forestry Awards, which will highlight outstanding woods and forestry skills, as well as educational projects in Central and Eastern England.
According to RFS Chief Executive Christopher Williams, the society is eager to learn about the incredible woodlands and projects in the region. He emphasized the importance of proper woodland management in the face of climate change, stating that a skilled and knowledgeable workforce is crucial for adapting landscapes and educating future generations.
The competition will feature five categories, including the Duke of Cornwall’s Award for Resilient Multi-Purpose Forestry, the Bede Howell Award for Excellence in Silviculture, the Small and Farm Woodland of the Year Award, the Education and Learning Award, and the Community Woodland of the Year Award. Entries are open to RFS members within the Nottingham/Lincolnshire, Midlands, East Anglia, and North West Midlands divisions, as well as non-members across the region. The deadline for submissions is 30 April.
