Everlight sued by Nichia in Germany for alleged patent infringement, seeking 2.5 million EUR in damages

Nichia Corporation Files Lawsuit Against Taiwanese LED Manufacturer for Patent Infringement

Düsseldorf, Germany – Nichia Corporation (“Nichia”), a leading LED manufacturer, has filed a lawsuit against Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. and its German subsidiary, Everlight Electronics Europe GmbH (both “Everlight”), on March 12, 2025. The lawsuit was filed at the Düsseldorf District Court and seeks damage compensation of 2.5 million EUR for patent infringement.

The lawsuit is based on two final judgments issued by the Düsseldorf District Court on Nichia’s YAG patent (EP 936 682/DE 697 02 929). In the first judgment (docket number 4b O 56/12), the court found Everlight guilty of infringing on Nichia’s patent. In the second judgment (docket number 4b O 161/17), Everlight acknowledged all claims of Nichia, leading to the court confirming these claims in favor of Nichia.

Initially, Everlight argued that the scope of the damage compensation should be limited to the specific products mentioned in the judgment and refused to provide account information for additional products. In response, Nichia initiated enforcement proceedings and the court confirmed Nichia’s legal view. As a result, Everlight has now fulfilled its legal obligation and provided complete account information.

Nichia believes that the appropriate damage award for the infringement should be 2.5 million EUR, based on the account information provided by Everlight. Therefore, Nichia has filed a court proceeding to claim this compensation.

Nichia is committed to protecting its patents and other intellectual property rights and will take necessary action against alleged infringers in any country. For further information, please contact Nichia Corporation’s Public Relations department at +81-884-22-2311 or via fax at +81-884-23-7717.
