Stirling Highland Games Set to Bring Scottish Culture to Life
The Stirling Highland Games, one of Scotland’s most highly-anticipated annual cultural events, is gearing up for another day of entertainment, tradition, and fun on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Located in the heart of Stirling, this year’s event aims to attract more visitors from nearby Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Perth, to experience the rich heritage and vibrant atmosphere of the Highland Games. With thousands of attendees expected from over 50 nations, the Stirling Highland Games promises to be a truly international gathering.
In support of the event, Paul Bush OBE, Director of Events at VisitScotland, says, “We are proud to support Stirling Highland Games through EventScotland’s National Events Funding Programme. These games are a fantastic celebration of all things uniquely Scottish and are an integral part of our country’s vibrant portfolio of cultural and sporting events. Events like these play a crucial role in bringing communities together and providing locals and visitors with the opportunity to connect, enjoy, and share memorable experiences.”
More Than Just a Sporting Event
The Stirling Highland Games is more than just a sporting event; it is a celebration of Scottish heritage, culture, and community. Attendees can witness traditional Highland games competitions, explore 50 vendors, makers, and crafters on-site, enjoy street food and craft beverages, and indulge in the creative arts performances and Stirling 900 photo exhibit.
The Heavyweights, Adaptive Heavyweights, and Stirling Stones competitions are already at full capacity, but visitors can still cheer on the incredible athletes throughout the day. The Track and Field and Highland Dancing competitions are still open for entries.
A Day of Entertainment for All Ages
In addition to the thrilling competitions, the Stirling Highland Games offers a packed entertainment schedule for visitors of all ages. Attendees can join a heritage tour on-site to learn that 10,000 years ago, the games field was underwater. Families can also visit the Community Area, where children can participate in mini Highland games or touch rugby, making it a perfect family outing. The event will also feature Stirling Gaelic Choir and Sticks n Kicks, giving it a real festival vibe.
Matt McGrandles, President of the Stirling Highland Games, says, “I am delighted that EventScotland is supporting the event this year. My committee, the organizers, and our volunteers work tirelessly to provide Stirling with an event we can all be proud of. I hope our event catches the eye of many visitors across central Scotland, and we can entice them to take a day trip to Stirling on August 17th.”
