The British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) has announced a collaboration with English Heritage site, Bolsover Castle, to offer yoga sessions within its historic walls. The first session will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2024, as part of BWY’s vision to make yoga accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
Led by BWY’s Midlands Regional Officer, Sally Kennedy, the two-hour sessions aim to promote inclusivity and the transformative power of yoga. In line with this goal, BWY is funding five spaces for vulnerable members of the community, recommended by local support services. The sessions also offer a sliding payment scale, starting at £15.
In addition to the yoga session, the ticket also includes entry to the castle, which would typically cost £12.70. This allows participants to make a day of it and explore Bolsover Castle’s rich history. These yoga sessions are part of a broader community outreach program at Bolsover Castle, which also includes creative writing workshops aimed at supporting the mental health of young people.
BWY Chair, Diana O’Reilly, stated, “Partnering with an English Heritage site is a great opportunity for BWY, and we’re excited to bring yoga to such a stunning place. These sessions reflect our strong commitment to making yoga more accessible and inclusive for everyone. Not only will participants gain from the well-being benefits yoga offers, but they’ll also forge a deeper connection to the castle and its rich history.”
Joel Wileman, Bolsover Castle Supervisor at English Heritage, added, “Our partnership with BWY supports our mission to reimagine this historic site not just as a place to preserve and share its remarkable story, but as a vibrant, communal space for all to enjoy. These yoga sessions invite new audiences to experience the castle in a fresh, engaging way, while offering regular visitors a unique perspective on this iconic landmark.”
