Birmingham-based charity, CASBA Advocacy, has been selected for the third year in a row to participate in the UK-wide Big Give #ChristmasChallenge. The Big Give is a fundraising platform that helps charities raise vital funds through online donations. This year, every donation made to CASBA Advocacy through the Big Give from December 3rd to 10th will be doubled.
“This is an incredible opportunity for us to make an even bigger impact on the lives of adults with learning disabilities,” says Ginny Cullen, CEO of CASBA Advocacy. “We are grateful to be chosen for this challenge and we hope to raise as much as possible to support our cause.”
People with learning disabilities are one of the most disadvantaged groups in society, facing financial exclusion, social marginalization, discrimination, and health inequalities. CASBA Advocacy works to empower these individuals by providing them with self-advocacy skills and helping them understand their rights. With the public’s support and donations, CASBA Advocacy can recruit and train more advocates, making a significant difference in the lives of those with learning disabilities.
Some adults with learning disabilities have shared the impact CASBA Advocacy has made on their lives. “CASBA helped me stand up for my right to education,” says B, who was able to complete their studies with the support of CASBA’s advocacy.
CASBA Advocacy also hosts a self-advocacy group where members can discuss issues that affect their lives. “We talk about things that affect our lives,” says young self-advocate M.
“Before CASBA, I wouldn’t talk to anyone. Now I want to tell people what is possible with CASBA Advocacy’s help,” says J.
If you would like to support CASBA Advocacy and make a difference in the lives of those with learning disabilities, you can double your donation by visiting their Big Give donation page, Stronger Voices, More Independence. All donations will go towards recruiting and training more advocates to help individuals with learning disabilities live as equal citizens in society.
