Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Integrated Care Partnership have announced the appointment of Dr Salman Shahid to the position of Associate Medical Director. Dr Shahid, who currently serves as the Clinical Lead and Senior Business Partner at Rochdale Road Medical Centre in Middleton, will play a crucial role in leading the development and transformation of health and care services across the Rochdale borough. His appointment aims to provide strong clinical leadership and support the clinical and care professional model in Rochdale.
As the Associate Medical Director, Dr Shahid will work closely with clinical leads and contribute to the development of the clinical and care professional workforce in Rochdale. He will also act as a clinical interface between the Greater Manchester Integrated Care and the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (HMR) locality. In addition, Dr Shahid will serve as a member of various boards and committees, including the HMR Locality Board, HMR Primary Care Commissioning Committee, Locality Leadership Team, and the NHS Greater Manchester Wider Leadership Team.
Dr Shahid’s role will ensure that the clinical voice is represented in decision-making processes and that clinical and care professional leaders receive the necessary support. His work will focus on promoting the health and well-being of the population in Rochdale and fostering collaboration among commissioners and providers across organizational boundaries.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Dr Salman Shahid stated, “I am excited to represent HMR locality in Greater Manchester as Associate Medical Director. I look forward to working collaboratively with local and GM system leadership to meet the needs of Rochdale borough residents and communities.” He emphasized the importance of integrating health and social care services at both place and neighborhood levels by working closely with primary care, secondary care, public health, social care providers, and community and voluntary sector providers.
Dr Shahid brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having trained in hospital medicine and worked as a medical registrar in the North West Region of England. He later pursued an MSc in Health & Social Care Management at Oxford. Since 2009, he has been actively involved in primary care, working as a GP Partner in Middleton. Dr Shahid also serves as a Foundation Programme Clinical Supervisor at North West Deanery and is involved in medical student supervision and examination at Manchester University.
Throughout his career, Dr Shahid has demonstrated leadership as the Clinical Director of Middleton Primary Care network (PCN) and has championed the integration of health and social care pathways by leading a team of Social Prescribing Link Workers. He is passionate about finding innovative solutions to address the healthcare challenges faced in the modern age, particularly in the realm of long-term physical and mental health conditions.
