Routemaster Association to Host RM70 Event in Celebration of Iconic Bus’ 70th Anniversary
London, UK – The Routemaster Association is thrilled to announce RM70, a free family event to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the first Routemaster bus, RM1. The event will take place on the weekend of July 20th and 21st in Chiswick Park, London.
RM70 is set to be the largest gathering of Routemasters in over 10 years, offering visitors a unique opportunity to see and even ride these iconic vehicles. The event will take place at the infamous Chiswick skid pan, where trainee drivers were once put through their paces.
A record number of buses are already booked to attend, making it a must-see event for photographers. With an expected line-up of 70 preserved Routemasters on display, RM70 will provide a unique photo opportunity.
In addition to the impressive line-up and free rides, the event will also feature trade stands and a Routemaster bus that has been converted into a bar.
Chiswick Park was chosen as the location for RM70 due to its historical connection with the Routemaster bus. Before being developed into a modern business park, the site was home to one of London Transport’s main bus overhaul works and was known for its impressive skid pan where trainee drivers were trained.
The Routemaster Association, formed in 1988, aims to support new owners of the iconic London bus. Its membership includes enthusiasts and prominent figures from the transport industry and bus preservation movement.
