On April 11th, the music world was graced with the launch of ‘Home’, the long-anticipated debut album by My Turning Point, 15 years in the making.
Originally recorded within the confines of a bedroom and later refined in a garage-turned-studio, My Turning Point is the musical alias of Leon Evans, an Aberdare native and Cardiff dweller, who has dedicated 35 years to his craft as a singer and guitarist.
‘Home’ represents Leon’s commitment to bringing to fruition a project that was due for release back in 2009. A series of life-altering events, including a divorce, the financial downturn of 2008, and subsequent personal financial turmoil, led him to abandon his musical journey in 2010.
However, the pandemic in 2022 brought about a profound reevaluation, urging Leon to complete the endeavour he began more than a decade ago.
The album’s premiere track, ‘One step closer to free’, was aptly released to coincide with Leon’s 50th birthday, signifying a step towards liberation.
Through eight emotionally charged tracks, ‘Home’ unfolds as a narrative of Leon’s trials and tribulations, from the despair of a divorce in 2008 to the solitude that followed, the bloom of a new relationship, and the apprehension of facing the future alone. The album, with its acoustic core and soulful yet straightforward arrangements, invites the listener on a voyage of pain, rediscovery, love, and hope.
Initially intended as a follow-up to the ‘Childhood E.P.’ released in 2008 under ‘Leon Live’, the album was to be called “This is who I am, this is who I was”. Now titled ‘Home’, it will be available from April 11th, 2024, on Bandcamp for digital download and as a physical CD, complete with an eight-page booklet featuring lyrics and notes. Additionally, it will be accessible across all major streaming platforms and digital music stores.
