CollabFC, a UK-based social media platform, has officially launched, marking a new chapter in the way football fans engage online. The innovative platform introduces a fresh approach, with 200 European football teams set to have their own dedicated spaces within the Fediverse, a decentralised network of interconnected servers.
This platform enables fans not only to interact within their team’s community but also to engage with supporters from other clubs across the Fediverse. By utilising the ActivityPub protocol, CollabFC facilitates seamless connections with other platforms such as Bluesky, Mastodon, and Threads. This reflects the global spirit of football, where fans from various teams often share a common love for the sport.
“We envision CollabFC as more than just a platform; it’s a community where football fans regain control over their digital spaces,” said Diego Rocks, Founder of CollabFC. “By creating interoperable team instances, we’re fostering team spirit while building bridges for fans to connect, discuss, and share their passion for football. We’re not just another social media site; we’re building a football universe where every fan has a voice.”
A key feature of CollabFC is its emphasis on community-driven moderation, reminiscent of the early days of football forums. Each team’s instance will be moderated by volunteer fans, ensuring a safe, spam-free space for genuine football conversations. This approach not only enhances the user experience but also builds a sense of community ownership. The moderation system encourages constructive debate and maintains a respectful environment for all.
This human-led moderation strategy is designed to improve the health of online discussions and appeal to advertisers. Many sports brands have reduced social media spending in recent years due to concerns about non-football-related hate content appearing alongside their adverts. CollabFC’s focus on sports-related content and stricter moderation offers a safer environment for advertisers, who will benefit from a platform dedicated to quality and user engagement.
CollabFC has initially launched with 20 English football teams and plans to expand to 200 teams across Europe. The platform’s objective is to engage 5,000 active fans per team, with the ultimate goal of building a community of 1 million fans. This would make CollabFC one of the largest communities on the Fediverse, with vast potential for advertising revenue. The growth plan also includes features such as live match discussions, fan polls, and exclusive content to enhance user experience.
Currently, CollabFC is seeking funding to support its expansion, aiming to include more teams and improve platform features. “We’re looking for partners who share our vision of a fan-centric, community-driven football experience,” added Diego. “Our business model is built on sustainability, ensuring that the platform grows with its community, providing value to fans, teams, and advertisers alike.”
