Challenges in EHR Implementation Demand Enhanced IT Support

The healthcare sector’s shift towards Electronic Health Records (EHR) technology, growing globally at a rate of 13.53% annually, is proving insufficient in addressing the pressing issues of staff shortages, patient care quality, and clinician burnout. EHRs, initially hailed as a solution, are increasingly contributing to clinician burnout.

Furthermore, as patient needs evolve and healthcare organisations grow, 70% of EHR users express concerns that their systems will not meet future needs. This highlights the critical need for substantial IT support to maximise the effectiveness of EHR systems.

The lack of IT expertise is a major impediment, with 37% of organisations facing project delays or cancellations, and 86% struggling to hire and retain IT/tech professionals.

To bridge this gap, MediConfig, a new EHR consultancy, has been introduced to support healthcare organisations in the UK and US. Leveraging 17 years of experience with Cerner Millennium, MediConfig offers a range of services, including onboarding, training, troubleshooting, maintenance, and more, tailored to enhance EHR system performance.

Etienne Boshoff, Managing Director of MediConfig, highlights the critical role of IT support in EHR systems, stating, “Getting EHR implementation right is key to making big changes in healthcare. And to make sure these systems work well, fit your specific needs, and continue to evolve as your organisation does, you need strong IT support in place. Without it, the problems you’re trying to solve – such as burnout, staff shortages, and disjointed patient care – will only be exacerbated.”

This sentiment is echoed by a JMIR Medical study, which found that significant IT support is necessary to fully realise the benefits of EHR systems.

In conjunction with its launch, MediConfig is offering no-cost introductory meetings for troubleshooting Cerner EHR issues.
