German company Codasip has received certification for their IP hardware development processes according to two international standards: ISO 26262 for functional safety and ISO/SAE 21434 for cybersecurity engineering. The evaluation and certification were conducted by TÜV SÜD, a leading global technical service organization.
Codasip, a leader in RISC-V Custom Compute, announced this achievement on February 1, 2024. The company’s IP hardware engineering team, responsible for developing new automotive IP products, has been using these certified processes, guidelines, and work instructions. This not only ensures the reliability and integrity of their products, but also provides a solid foundation for efficient compliance and assessments.
According to Jamie Broome, the vice president of automotive and products at Codasip, these certifications are a significant milestone in their goal to provide a comprehensive solution for safety and security needs. As the next step, they plan to certify key parts of their product portfolio in order to support automotive OEMs looking to differentiate their products through Custom Compute.
Codasip believes that a holistic approach to safety and security is essential, especially in complex systems that rely on hardware, software, and wireless technology like over-the-air updates. One weak link in the chain can compromise the entire system. By incorporating robust security and safety measures into their processors, Codasip aims to defend against failures and protect against malicious attacks and unauthorized access.
In October 2023, Codasip announced the first commercially licensable implementation of the fine-grained memory protection technology CHERI. This technology, combined with certified development processes, will pave the way for the next generation of safe and secure processors based on Codasip RISC-V processor cores.
The ISO 26262 standard applies to all safety-related systems in road vehicles, while ISO/SAE 21434 addresses the cybersecurity perspective in engineering electrical and electronic systems in vehicles. Codasip’s certification was achieved according to relevant clauses of both standards.
Codasip is a processor technology company that helps system-on-chip developers differentiate their products for a competitive advantage. They offer a unique Custom Compute offering that combines Codasip Studio design automation tools, a fully open architecture licensing model, and a range of customizable processor IP. The company, based in Germany, serves a global market and has already enabled billions of devices with their technology. To learn more, visit www.codasip.com.
