Carveco Ltd Marks Three Decades of Pioneering Artistic Design and Manufacturing Software

Carveco Ltd, a leading provider of artistic Computer-Aided-Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CADCAM) software, is celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of its software’s core technology. Formerly known as ArtCAM®, the software has been helping individuals and businesses worldwide to create a wide range of products, from signage and movie props to coinage and embossing dies for the print industry.

The software was first developed in 1994 after a Delcam customer approached the company with a request for a way to create a low-level sculpted 3D design from a cartoon image. This sparked the idea to use colors to instantly create different heights in a relief design, and thus began ArtCAM’s journey in 3D relief modeling.

Timothy Buck, Carveco’s Technical Director and former ArtCAM Development Manager, explains, “Our focus has always been to provide a software that allows for artistic expression while maintaining fast and precise machining capabilities. Over the years, we have worked closely with our customers to understand their design aspirations and develop innovative features and solutions. This led us to create the first CNC software packages for hobbyists, as well as specialized features for niche markets such as the minting industry.”

Since its inception, ArtCAM has received numerous accolades, including the Queen’s Award for Innovation and recognition from the technical committee within the minting industry, who use the software to create the latest advances in circulation and commemorative coins.

Although the acquisition of Delcam by Autodesk in 2014 and the subsequent end of ArtCAM in 2018 presented challenges, Carveco Ltd was formed to provide a safe haven for existing customers.

Robert Newman, Carveco’s Managing Director and former ArtCAM Business Development Manager, states, “We had built a strong relationship with our customers over the years and wanted to provide them with a significant way forward. We are extremely proud that we were able to negotiate the continuance of the ArtCAM code to ensure continuity of care for our customers.”

Since its formation, Carveco Ltd has continued to develop the software to meet the evolving needs of its global customer base. The company now offers three solutions: Carveco Maker, Carveco Maker Plus, and Carveco®, its flagship product. Carveco Maker provides small businesses and home hobbyists with an affordable option to begin CNC machining, starting at just USD$15 a month.

Carveco Maker Plus offers additional features, including 2D design and 3D relief modeling and machining capabilities. Carveco, the flagship product, provides advanced 2D/3D modeling, sculpting, and machining capabilities for customers using high-end CNC machines and lasers.

Since its inception, Carveco Ltd has been able to bring back many of the individuals who helped develop and support the software over the years, including its international sales partners.

Robert Newman concludes, “We are incredibly proud to continue the legacy of fostering creativity and passion for the people and businesses we serve. We would like to extend our gratitude to all of our customers, resellers, and sales partners for their continued support.”
