Cadbury’s Spira: Company heeds demand for revival of ‘best chocolate bar ever’

Cadbury’s, a well-known chocolate maker, has responded to the growing demand for the relaunch of one of its most beloved chocolate bars. The call for the return of the Spira bar was reignited when the company announced the revival of its Top Deck bars earlier this year. This move was apparently due to a new production process that allowed for the creation of chocolate in various shapes and textures without the use of moulds. The Spira bar was initially introduced in 1989 and featured a unique spiral shape with six hollow tubes running through each bar.

After reports of Cadbury’s relaunch of the Top Deck bar were shared on their Money blog, the company received an influx of messages from readers requesting the return of the Spira. Many fondly remembered the bar’s design and its unique ability to be used as a straw for hot drinks. One reader, who goes by the name Oompahlumpa, shared their experience, stating “Cadbury Spira was and remains the best chocolate bar ever. With experience, you can drink your hot drink through this chocolate straw, melt the inside perfectly and the outside will still be intact. It needs skill but it can only be achieved with the Spira.”

Another reader, Janette, expressed their desire for the Spira bar to make a comeback, stating “I’d just love to see a Cadbury’s Spira back on the shelves. Great to eat, but also great to use as a drinking straw!” Similar sentiments were shared by countless other readers, with one, Jannic, exclaiming “Cadbury’s really NEED to bring back Spira bars! There’s nothing else needing brought back other than this chocolate bar!!!”

The Spira bar has even sparked multiple petitions and has a dedicated Facebook page with over 35,000 followers. Despite its apparent popularity, Cadbury’s discontinued production of the bar in 2005 and stated in response to a customer query on X in January that there were “no plans to bring back Spira.”

However, in response to the overwhelming demand for the return of the Spira bar, Sky News reached out to Cadbury’s for a statement. A spokesperson for the company stated, “We continuously adapt our product range to meet changing tastes while supporting growth for our customers and our business. Our Spira bars were discontinued several years ago, but we still have plenty of other delicious sharing bags for consumers to choose from.”
