British Parenting Expert Unexpectedly Gains New Perspectives After Sharing Knowledge in China

Last Updated on: 22nd November 2023, 07:12 am

Elizabeth O’Shea, director of Parent 4 Success, from Horsham, UK, was recently presented with a once-in-a-lifetime experience as part of her business venture to train parenting consultants in China.

After being welcomed at Shanghai airport with banners and flowers, Elizabeth quickly realised that this was no ordinary trip. She then conducted a series of one-on-one interviews and spoke to over 200 parents in a workshop featuring live-action “plays” and parenting scenarios.

Organisers provided Elizabeth with a simultaneous translation team who communicated with the audience via earpiece, ensuring the language barrier was not an issue.

Elizabeth was then taken to Hangzhou, referred to by the Chinese as “Heaven on Earth”, where she was gifted a gorgeous Chinese silk dress before proceeding to a graduation ceremony for the newly-qualified consultants. Here, she was treated to a traditional fan dance by two talented five-year-old girls, and each student took to the stage to speak about how much the course had meant to them, queuing up to receive a hug and a rose from Elizabeth.

At East China Normal University, Elizabeth answered a Q&A in front of a packed live audience and was presented with the most remarkable gift of all – a model of herself! She described this as an “extremely touching and unexpected” gesture.

Elizabeth was showered with so many gifts that organisers kindly provided a second suitcase to bring them all back to the UK.

On returning home, Elizabeth reminisced on her time in China, describing it as “culture shock in the best way possible.” She wished her graduates all the best and commended their “immense generosity of spirit and kindness.”

On her return to the UK, Elizabeth is bringing her program back to teach British parents how to set up their own parenting consulting businesses to help other families and children.
