We Are Survivors, a leading charity for male sexual abuse and rape survivors, has released the latest edition of their quarterly magazine, Beyond the Silence, featuring cover star Barney Walsh. The magazine, which was published on Sunday 1 September, 2024, highlights the organization’s efforts to support not only male survivors, but also their loved ones.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Duncan Craig OBE, announced the launch of the charity’s new support provision, the ‘Supporter Safe Room’, designed for the wives, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends, mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters of male victims/survivors. According to Craig, the safe space will allow these unsung heroes to come together and find strength in togetherness.
The magazine also includes a feature on the importance of having an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) for victims, as well as a new project in Greater Manchester that aims to provide victims with a comfortable space to conduct their police interviews. In addition, the magazine celebrates the organization’s support of apprenticeships, featuring an interview with an apprentice who has received multiple awards.
The cover star of this edition, Barney Walsh, discusses his role in an upcoming male survivor storyline on BBC’s Casualty, which We Are Survivors has been supporting. The magazine also highlights the organization’s work with popular TV shows like Hollyoaks, Coronation Street, and Eastenders.
As the magazine “hits the shelves,” We Are Survivors proudly notes a 50% increase in active clients, attributing this to their efforts in bringing male survivor stories to light and giving a voice to silent survivors.
