BBC Radio 4 Appeal to Highlight DSM Foundation, a Non-Profit Focused on Drug Education

Drug education charity, the DSM Foundation, is pleased to announce that it will be featured on the BBC Radio 4 Appeal on Sunday, November 3rd. The appeal, which will run for a week, will be broadcast at 7:54am and 9:25pm on that Sunday, and again at 3:26pm on Thursday, November 7th. The segment will also be available on the BBC Radio 4 website and on BBC Sounds.

Unlike other BBC Radio 4 Appeals that are typically presented by a celebrity, the DSM Foundation’s appeal will be presented by the founder and director of the charity, Fiona Spargo-Mabbs OBE. The charity was founded after the tragic death of 16-year-old Daniel Spargo-Mabbs, who passed away from an accidental overdose of ecstasy. Fiona Spargo-Mabbs is well-equipped to discuss the importance of drug education and the impact it can have on young people and those in their lives. The DSM Foundation hopes that this campaign will raise awareness of the challenges faced by young people when it comes to drugs and raise crucial funds to support their safer decision making.

Grace McCormack, Corporate and Community Fundraiser for the DSM Foundation, stated, “It is a great honor for the DSM Foundation to be featured on the BBC Radio 4 Appeal. Not only will it bring attention to the issues that young people face regarding drugs, but also the work that we do to support them in making safer choices. This includes workshops for students and adults, as well as a play that tells Dan’s story, ‘I Love You, Mum – I Promise I Won’t Die’ by award-winning playwright Mark Wheeller. We are grateful for this opportunity and hope that it will raise valuable funds to support our drug education efforts. We are also grateful to a group of supporters who have generously agreed to match fund £12,000 of donations received through this appeal.”

Established in 2014, the DSM Foundation is a drug education charity that was created after the tragic death of 16-year-old Daniel Spargo-Mabbs. His family realized that he did not have enough information to make safe decisions and saw a gap in resources and support available in schools. The aim of the charity is to provide young people with relevant, age-appropriate, and evidence-based information about drugs so they can make informed choices for their safety. The charity currently works with nearly 750 schools, colleges, and community organizations, providing workshops for children and young adults, as well as training for parents and educators. They also offer access to the play ‘I Love You, Mum – I Promise I Won’t Die,’ which tells Dan’s story through the words of his family and friends. Schools and colleges can also access free, age-appropriate, and evidence-based drug education resources from the DSM Foundation website for use in PSHE/PSE lessons.
