Ashtead Players, a local theatre group, will be showcasing the acclaimed production of ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ by Richard Bean at the Ashtead Peace Memorial Hall from 24 to 27 April 2024.
The play, which gained popularity after actor and comedian James Corden’s performance in the lead role, will bring a taste of the West End and Broadway to Ashtead. Director Paul Andrews expressed his excitement for the opportunity to stage the production in their town, stating that they have assembled a talented cast and crew, and even added brand new songs arranged by a local band, promising a night of outstanding entertainment.
Set in 1963 Brighton, the play follows the story of Francis Henshall, an out-of-work musician who is employed by two different men – gangster Roscoe Crabbe and upper-class Stanley Stubbers. Francis must prevent the two from meeting to avoid them discovering his double employment. However, things become more complicated when it is revealed that Roscoe is actually Rachel Crabbe, his twin sister in disguise, and her boyfriend is none other than Stanley Stubbers. The plot thickens when local mobster Charlie the Duck arranges his daughter’s engagement to Roscoe, despite her preference for amateur actor Alan Dangle.
Performances are scheduled at 7:45 pm from Wednesday 24 to Saturday 27 April 2024, with a matinee on Saturday at 2:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door for £15 or in advance for £12 through https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/ashteadplayers or by calling the box office at 07598 121477.
