“Groundbreaking Play Sheds Light on Domestic Abuse in Lancashire”
A powerful and thought-provoking play, produced by Preston’s Certain Curtain Theatre Company, is set to hit the stage across Lancashire this March. The professional company, renowned for tackling sensitive and controversial subjects, is bringing “Lady in Red” to audiences in an effort to raise awareness about domestic abuse.
The play tells the story of “Rose,” a woman trapped in an abusive relationship, struggling to break free. Co-written by John Woudberg, the play delves into the dark and difficult topic of domestic abuse, but also weaves in elements of tension, humor, and beautiful language. Woudberg emphasizes that the play is not just about raising awareness, but also about creating a memorable theatrical experience for audiences.
“Domestic abuse is a topic that we all need to understand if we want to create real change,” says actor Claire Moore. “Statistics show that one in three women will experience domestic abuse, so it’s important for us to shed light on this issue and help people understand why it’s not as simple as just leaving.”
The play has been extensively researched by speaking to survivors of domestic abuse, making it a true and authentic portrayal of the issue. “Lady in Red” combines superb dialogue, a compelling plot, inspired performances, and evocative colors to create an unforgettable experience for audiences.
Thanks to the support of a crowdfund campaign on Spacehive, as well as the Lancashire Police Crime Commissioner and Lancashire County Council, tickets for the performances are free. The play will be performed at various locations in Lancashire, including The Artz Centre in Skelmersdale, The New Continental in Preston, and Thornton Little Theatre in Thornton Cleveleys.
Additional performances in Burnley and Chorley will be announced soon, and updates can be found on Certain Curtain’s website. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience “Lady in Red,” a play that challenges and entertains while shedding light on a pressing social issue.
