5k Run in October to Generate Donations for Southend Foodbank

Southend Foodbank is pleased to announce that Jack Leech of JL Fitness Online Coaching has taken on a significant fundraising challenge for the month of October.

Jack created the ‘Miles for Meals’ Challenge to raise more than £500 in support of Southend Foodbank’s efforts. He has pledged to run a 5k every day throughout October to collect much-needed funds for the Foodbank.

As of today, Jack is halfway through his daily runs and even ran today’s 5k to the Foodbank’s warehouse to volunteer his time.

Jack shared, “As a Fitness Coach, my favorite part is giving back to my community and making a positive impact on people’s lives. I believe this is the foundation of my job and what motivates me every morning. I want my business to be known for not only helping my clients but also giving back to the wider community. That’s why I am running 5k EVERY SINGLE DAY in October to raise money for Southend Foodbank. All donations will be given to the Foodbank at the end of the month. Every contribution, big or small, will go towards a fantastic cause. I am extremely grateful in advance for all donations and shares. LET’S SMASH IT!”

Since the beginning of 2024, Southend Foodbank has been spending over £10,000 a month on food, in addition to donations from local families, churches, businesses, schools, and community groups. The demand for emergency food parcels continues to rise in Southend, and the foodbank is now busier than ever. With eight distribution points throughout the city, Southend Foodbank strives to serve those most in need. For more information, visit the Foodbank’s website.

Sam Stimson, Foodbank Community Fundraiser, expressed gratitude for Jack’s initiative, saying, “Supporting projects like Jack’s Miles for Meals Challenge ensures that everyone in the community who needs emergency food can receive it. Donations from this challenge will directly benefit Southend Foodbank, providing essential funds to help us support our troubled community with three-day emergency food parcels. We are extremely grateful to all those who collect donations throughout Southend and Rochford, as well as those currently conducting harvest collections. Without their support, the Foodbank would not be able to help those in desperate need. We deeply appreciate the support of our local community, and if you are able to donate, please do so at the link below and support Jack and Southend Foodbank this winter.”
