The highly anticipated CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2024 were held on Thursday, February 29th at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge. The event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and visionaries to honor those who have made significant contributions to advancing the building industry and pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
Organized by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), the annual awards ceremony recognizes outstanding accomplishments and serves as a platform to spotlight the industry’s highest achievements. This year’s ceremony highlighted a diverse range of categories, including Best Digital Innovation, Project of the Year, and Building Performance Champion.
Philip Draper, Managing Director at Twenty One Engineering, was awarded the prestigious title of Engineer of the Year. Draper’s unique blend of creativity and practical delivery of innovation, combined with his passion for advancing engineering, made him stand out among the judges. He was recognized as a true leader in the industry.
The Building Performance Champion of the night was SGA Consulting’s York Guildhall project. The project was commended for its outstanding achievement in rejuvenating a centuries-old structure while overcoming significant regulatory, historic, and environmental challenges. This project serves as a symbol of the potential within these limitations and the urgent need to renovate existing structures to meet net-zero targets.
Other winners included AtkinsRéalis for Best Digital Innovation, Hoare Lea for Building Performance Consultancy (over 300 employees), XCO2 for Building Performance Consultancy (51-300 employees), and Inkling for Building Performance Consultancy (up to 50 employees).
Whitecroft Lighting was awarded the CIBSE Embodied Carbon Award, and Smart Managed Solutions & Savills won the Collaboration category for their Decarbonisation via Data-Driven Collaboration project. The full list of winners can be found below.
